2006 | Canton, Ohio | USS Macon’s 13th reunion. By Wednesday all the registration, Ships store and Memorabilia was in place at a very nice Hospitality room. At or about 4 bells the pizza and beer was served. It was made at the hotel and was very good and there was plenty to go around. Thursday 0900, we all left for the NFL Hall of Fame. What a neat place. The new movie about what it takes to get to the super bowl was fantastic. You felt like you were actually in the game. Then on to The 356 Fighter Group located at the airport for lunch. What a great buffet with chicken, beef, and fish with all the trimmings. Next we went to the London Chocolate Factory. A wonderful and interesting visit for sure. I saw many of our shipmates in the store after the tour. On Friday we were on our own. There was a lot close by to see. We went to The Classic Car Museum, The 1st Ladies Museum and ate dinner at Bender’s. Bender’s has been there since 1902, the food and service was great. Some of us went down to the Amish country and others just hung around or went shopping. Saturday was all the usual meetings and group pictures. Laura Wade was there taking all the pictures for our book. Saturday night was the Banquet with Laurel and Hardy and a great dance band. It was a little big for the room but was good big band music. Sunday morning a small group hung around for the memorial service. Then it was departure. We had a smaller group than normal but the reunion went well and I feel all had a good time and a few laughs. Thanks to Daryl and Etta Harris, Harold Foley and Paul Sfreddo for all their hard work. Now lets plan for next year in Washington DC. It will be a great one. Ted Parker |
