| Presidents Message - 2007
Once Again I look at the Calendar and wonder where the heck did 2006 go? I think the old saying is true; “When you get over the hill, you pick up speed”. We have had a good year and found a few more member’s , even a few plank owners. Of course we have lost a few of our more active folks. So Time Marches on and the tide and time waits for no one.
We are heading down for the final countdown in Washington DC. From all reports it appears that it is going to be a good reunion with better than normal attendance. It will also be my last hoorah as president. I have really enjoyed these last two years and have met and worked with some fine folks. I do feel that a few more folks should step forward as leaders of this group. It’s a satisfying work and really enjoyable. It does take a small amount of time and effort.
This year has been a year of personal travel and has kept me busy and that has meant I’ve stayed out of trouble. Since my 70th birthday last year I have hit that spot where I have had Dental work, will have had Cataract surgery by the time this article is printed, and I even blew out my right knee at my daughters down in GA. But I’m coming back rapidly and am ready for this May.
I have been busy with my old car going to a few shows and even doing a few WW II re-enactments up here in Lewes, DE at Ft. Miles. We are restoring one of the bunkers as a local museum.
We have a 12 inch gun in place now and are ahead of schedule.
This was the most fortified place on the whole East Coast to protect the mouth of the Delaware Bay and gateway to Philadelphia and the naval shipyard. The battlements here are equal to anything the Germans had at The Atlantic Wall or Normandy. Since I love history this has been a labor of love.
This Year at The Banquet I will wear a different uniform than I had in Canton. For you guys that were there till 1949 you may remember “Right Arm Rates” So that’s a hint.
I certainly hope to see you all this May and hope you all will have a healthy, and safe new year.
Pay your dues, send anything you might want put in the newsletter to Sandy and keep wearing your “Macon” stuff.
Harold and Beth continue to make our web-site one of the best out there. You should check it often and tell others to check it out.
Fair winds and following seas;
